Salary: $27.10 per hour

Reporting to Supervisor and/or Manager of Parks within the Transportation & Operations Department, the Arbourist is responsible for the planting, care and maintenance of City owned trees and the urban forest. The position is responsible for completing tasks and operating equipment as assigned to ensure that the City’s tree inventory is managed to the highest standard.
Essential (minimum) Qualifications:
  • Journeyman Status as an Arbourist Ontario Trade Code: 444A and/or Journeyman Status as a Utility Arbourist Ontario Trade 444 B 
  • Or: a recognized college diploma/degree in arboriculture, forestry and horticulture with successful completion of specialized courses in Tree Climbing, Fall Protection and Work Positioning, Arbourist Technical Rigging and High Angle Tree Removal required
  • Aerial Bucket Truck Operation Certification
  • “DZ” License with a clean driver’s abstract
Asset (preferred) Qualifications:
  • Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change, Forestry Land Exterminators Licence
  • Certified Arbourist status from the International Society of Arbouriculture (ISA)
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OSHA) and the pertinent regulations
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)
  • Proficiency in computer use and operation (word processing, databases, spread sheets)
  • Book 7- Traffic Control 
Essential (minimum) Qualifications:
  • Minimum Three (3) years’ of experience in tree climbing and tree care operations
Asset (preferred) Qualifications:
  • Experience in municipal urban tree environment
