Salary: $65,413 - $77,872 per annum
 

 
PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
 
The Engineer in Training (EIT) reports to the Deputy Director / Manager of Engineering and/or designate, and provides special project support for the City’s Capital Works program administered by the department.  The position will be responsible for providing technical support, design and project management of active transportation projects and initiatives including participation in transportation related Advisory Groups.  The position will also assist with the design, tender preparation and project management relative to the installation and maintenance of new and existing infrastructure including roads, sidewalks, watermains, sewers and stormwater management assets.
 
EDUCATION/SPECIALIZED TRAINING/SKILLS:
 
Essential (minimum) qualifications:
 
  • A University degree in Civil Engineering
  • Registered in Professional Engineers Ontario’s Engineering Intern (EIT) Program
  • Valid Class G Driver’s License with a safe driving record
 
Asset (preferred) qualifications:
 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of municipal engineering with an emphasis on transportation and active transportation facilities
  • Proficiency in MS word, Excel and Microsoft Access
  • Demonstrated familiarity with computer civil design packages including Autodesk’s Infrastructure Design Suite Civil 3D
  • Time management skills with the ability to manage multiple and changing demands and priorities
 
WORK EXPERIENCE:
 
Essential (minimum) qualifications:
 
  • One (1) year of experience in a municipal engineering consulting and/or municipal engineering organization.
  • One (1) year of related infrastructure design, inspection or project management experience in transportation facilities
 
Asset (preferred) qualifications:
 
  • Public sector experience is considered an asset
