Reporting to the Manager of Development Engineering, the Development Inspector/Operator is responsible for the administrative processing, plans examination, inspection and final approval of project and security release recommendations of Site Alteration Permits. This position is responsible to administer the Site Alteration Bylaw as it applies to Residential, Commercial and Industrial sites and ensure all Silt and Erosion Control measures are installed as per the approved drawings. This position is also responsible for the inspection of watermain connections including the operation of valves and all operating components and the inspection of any water servicing connections to existing infrastructure. The Development Inspector/Operator will be well versed with all associated water compliance regulations, City of Brantford standards, municipal bylaws and must be a professional communicator interacting with the public, builders, contractors, consultant engineers and city staff.
  • Possess a three (3) year community college diploma as an Engineering Technologist or equivalent education
  • Demonstrated experience in municipal construction/inspection of three (3) to five (5) years.
  • Must possess a Drinking Water Operator Certificate Level 1
  • C.E.T designation preferred
  • Comprehensive understanding and technical knowledge of municipal infrastructure, construction and maintenance
  • Proven knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Ontario Provincial Standard Specifications, Work Zone Safety and all other applicable legislation and specifications
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple and changing demands and priorities
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills are essential
  • Experience working with computer applications including Amanda, MS Word, Excel, Outlook, G.I.S. systems
  • Possess a valid driver's license in good standing during the course of employment
RATE OF PAY: $32.94 to $36.60 per hour (based on 35 hours per week, CUPE Local 181 - City Hall Unit)
