Truck Driver/Labourer (Regular)

Truck Driver/Labourers are responsible for operating light or medium duty trucks and for performing generally unskilled labour related to road construction and maintenance and sewer activities in such areas as drainage systems, sidewalk and road surfaces, sign maintenance, tree removal and trimming, sewer maintenance and installation, etc.  They also maintain equipment (grease, oil and minor repairs).  Main duties and responsibilities are in the areas of street and road maintenance, snow removal and ice control, construction and maintenance activities for capital projects, and other duties as assigned.
 
Qualifications include OSSD or equivalent with one (1) year experience as a Truck Driver or combination of education and experience in roads/winter control operations and maintenance activities, plus completion of several provincially sponsored courses in municipal roads maintenance and traffic control.  Candidates must have a valid Class “DZ” license and current Driver’s Abstract with results satisfactory to the Employer, have the ability to operate a truck, post-hole digger/auger, farm tractor, and other power hand equipment, and the ability to acquire a Chainsaw Operator’s Safety Certificate, Trench Safety and Confined Space Entry.
 
Normal hours of work are forty (40) hours per week, usually Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with required on-call hours as well as emergency responses; flexibility in scheduling is necessary to be available for “call out” duties, emergency responses, weekend work and/or overtime as needed.  The wage for this position is $26.67 upon hiring, $27.26 after three (3) months and $29.31 after twelve (12) months.
