Project Engineer - Engineering Planning & Studies
 
Reporting to the Engineering Planning & Studies Manager, the incumbent will:
 
- Conduct and manage Municipal Class Environmental Assessments, Capital Works projects, special engineering studies and technical assignments for water supply and sanitary sewerage projects including development of project scope, preparation of Requests for Proposals, proposal evaluation, hire consultants, and day to day project management
- Plan long-term municipal water supply and sanitary sewerage infrastructure strategies by developing servicing alternatives for engineering analysis in consultation with internal Regional staff and/or by conducting Master Planning studies
- Manage technical support staff of engineering technicians by assessing needs, reviewing, organizing, prioritizing and assigning projects and technical tasks including the review of development proposals with respect to water supply and sanitary sewerage infrastructure
- Develop long-term Capital Works budgeting forecast for water supply and sanitary sewerage services
- Respond to inquiries from staff, various departments, external customers, developers and politicians to resolve problems, and explain technical information regarding water supply and sanitary sewerage servicing
- Provide technical support in the development and reviewing of standards, policies and guidelines for Regional Planning, Works, Finance and Health Departments related to water supply and sanitary sewerage servicing
- Provide professional opinion and advice regarding water supply and sanitary sewerage servicing by stamping and signing letters, reports and documentation
 
The successful applicant will possess:
 
- A post-secondary degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent
- Registered as a Professional Engineer with Professional Engineers Ontario
- Extensive experience in the environmental engineering field specializing in water supply and sanitary sewerage projects
- Experience supervising technical staff and consultants in an environmental engineering environment
- Broad public presentation experience
- Knowledge and understanding of the Municipal Engineering field specializing in water supply and sanitary sewerage projects, Ontario Water Resource Act, Public Utilities Act, Environmental Assessment Act, Environmental Protection Act, Expropriation Act, Municipal Act, Development Charges Act, Ontario Building Code, Regional Development Charge ByLaws, Region Design Guidelines, Planning Act and Planning application processes
- Experience working with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), as well as water distribution and sanitary sewerage conveyance hydraulic modelling software (InfoWater, InfoWorks)
- Strong project management and organizational skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication, problem solving, analytical, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills
- A valid Class 'G' Driver's Licence with the use of a reliable vehicle
 
Management & Exempt Salary Grade 7
 
- Salary: $93,624 to $117,030 per annum
