    This is a permanent full-time position working 35 hours per week.
Reporting to the Director of Water and Wastewater Services, this position will manage all activities related to the maintenance and operation of the Region’s Water and Wastewater outlying facilities, including all Regional pumping stations, reservoirs, and other related water and wastewater infrastructure.
Preferred Background:
The successful candidate will possess a degree or diploma in an engineering, technology, or environmental field with five to ten years of progressive management experience, preferably in a unionized environment,  related to the water and wastewater industry. In addition, possession of a valid Water Distribution license and/or valid Wastewater Collection license is a definite asset. Experience in a municipal environment with an understanding of the regulations related to Water Treatment/ Distribution and Wastewater Treatment/ Collection is required. To be successful, strong leadership, strategic thinking, problem solving and exceptional communication skills are required along with excellent judgment, decision making and superior customer facilitation skills for interactions with senior management, members of the public and external agencies. Expertise in financial business management and collaborative leadership within a best practices and continuous improvement environment is also required. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.  
Working Conditions:
The successful candidate will be made an offer of employment on condition that the Regional Municipality of Halton receives a current (obtained within the past six (6) months), original and acceptable Criminal Records Check, by the first day of employment. Travel will be required incumbent must provide their own transportation. The incumbent will be required to provide a copy of their driver’s license by their first day of employment. Flexibility in working hours will be required.
  • Direct and manage functional service groups in the areas of Water Stations (reservoirs, towers, pumping stations) and Wastewater Stations (pumping stations) including operations and maintenance.
  • Provide twenty-four seven (24/7) facility repair services outlying facilities and related infrastructure.
  • Ensure the water quality is maintained through the distribution and transmission processes by directing appropriate preventative maintenance and emergency responses to pumping stations, reservoirs.
  • Implement and maintain a Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) inclusive for all business units within Water and Wastewater Stations operations and maintenance.
  • Direct the required maintenance on existing water and wastewater outlying facilities including the development and monitoring of a preventative maintenance program, scheduling work orders, and providing technical advice on maintaining infrastructure and the maintenance management system (i.e. CMMS/Hansen/SAPPM) in order to maintain a good state of repair.
  • Perform Capital needs assessments for the water and wastewater stations areas in order to account for these needs to create sustainable infrastructure and maintain systems that are in state-of-good-repair.
  • Analyze and monitor water distribution systems performance through SCADA and hydraulic modeling data which will require that this position takes an active role in developing and configuring the SCADA systems.
  • Ensure Halton’s water distribution and wastewater collections programs are compliant with all applicable legislation and regulations through the delivery of a dynamic process to plan, undertake, validate, review and improve regulated activities within the division.
  • Manage the administration of contractor contracts for services including maintenance, landscaping, chemical supplies, and any other related contracts for services delivered to the water and wastewater stations area.
  • Manage a diverse group of staff that includes a unionized portion requiring strong communication, dispute resolution, and negotiation skills in order to proactively address issues and concerns in accordance with corporate policies and collective agreement language.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
