This is a permanent full time position working 35 hours per week.
Reporting to the Supervisor, Traffic Safety & Operations, this position provides customer-focused services to internal and external clients on matters relating to traffic operations and safety programs, traffic signal and red light camera operations and maintenance of infrastructure. This position will manage the Red Light Camera program ensuring its effective operation as a safety tool towards the Regional Road Network System.
Preferred Background:
The successful candidate will possess a diploma in Transportation Engineering Technology with a minimum of one (1) year relevant work experience. Registration or eligibility for registration is the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT) is required. A strong practical knowledge in Transportation Engineering principles and practices of traffic signal design and operations, and safety  orientated education and experience along with comprehensive knowledge of all related acts, manuals, guidelines, and standards namely the Ontario Provincial Standards (OPS), Transportation Association of Canada (TAC) Geometric Design Guide, Ontario Traffic Manual (OTM), and Highway Traffic Act (HTA) is required. Candidates must possess strong analytical, organizational, project management, critical problem solving and customer service skills for leading and coordinating Regional initiatives along with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.  Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office suite including Excel databases, and GIS applications, and Synchro are required. Proficiency in the use of Siebel, and experience with Traffic Engineering Software (TES) is an asset.
Working Conditions:
The incumbent must be eligible to be recognized as a Provincial Offences Officer, as per the Provincial Offences Act, RSO 1990.  The incumbent will be required to drive a Regional vehicle and will be required to provide a copy of their driver’s license and a driver’s abstract, by their first day of employment.
  • Assist with the Regions Comprehensive Road Safety Action Plan (CROSAP).
  • Maintain the Regions Red Light Camera program.
  • Maintain the Regions traffic database of TMC’s, ATR’s, RLC performance, speed data and collision statistics.
  • Maintain the Regions road network Synchro model.
  • Maintain the Regions PHM-125 database with current up-to-date drawings. 
  • Review, comment and potentially inspect on intersection design and capital works.
  • Review, comment and respond to issues such as general road operations, traffic management plans.
  • Co-ordinate installation, maintenance and payment of invoicing.
  • Participate in traffic operational and safety assessments (operations & collision analysis) to improve safety and efficiency of new and existing Regional Roads.
  • Prepare traffic operational related memos and reports for Senior Management / Council.
  • Assist with the management of Halton owned Variable Message Sign boards (VMS) as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
