This is a permanent full time position working 40 hours per week.
Reporting to the Manager of Wastewater Treatment, this position provides leadership to the wastewater treatment facility and ensures compliance with Ministry of the Environment & Climate Change (MOECC) regulatory and Certificate of Approval requirements for the treatment of wastewater.
Preferred Background: 
The successful candidate will have a degree or diploma preferably in an Environmental or Engineering related discipline with a Level IV Wastewater Treatment certification/license and a minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in a municipal wastewater treatment environment. Excellent collaboration, team building, organizational, and leadership and critical thinking skills are required. Knowledge and application of MOECC regulations, legislation, guidelines and the Occupational Health and Safety Act are required. Proficiency with MS Office, SAP, work order management systems and SCADA process control systems is essential. Sound financial management, dispute resolution in a unionized environment and customer facilitation is preferred. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively and demonstrate professionalism, awareness and political acuity when interacting with stakeholders. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
Working Conditions:
The successful candidate will be made an offer of employment on condition that the Regional Municipality of Halton receives a current (obtained within the past six (6) months), original and acceptable Criminal Records Check, by the first day of employment. Travel will be required incumbent must provide their own transportation. The incumbent will also be required to provide a copy of their valid Class G Ontario driver’s license by their first day of employment. Will be required to serve standby, respond to after hour’s callouts and provide leadership in emergencies and in adverse conditions.
  • Supervises wastewater facility including scheduling of work, hiring, performance management and review, staff training and development ensuring that staff certification levels are maintained.
  • Identifies through coordinated efforts with staff and management all required capital improvements for inclusion in the Capital Budget to ensure the continued operation of all facilities and the longevity of all wastewater treatment assets.
  • Provides operational expertise and guidance for wastewater facility construction projects
  • Provides input concerning operational expertise to develop innovative and cost effective solutions and resolves operational concerns regarding plant processes and equipment selection in conjunction with engineering staff.
  • Reviews annual planned maintenance and construction activities for wastewater facilities, prioritizes requirements and co-ordinates work with maintenance or contractors as required.
  • Facilitates meetings with staff to discuss and ensure operational processes and wastewater treatment are maintained and improved.
  • Provides technical information in support of reports going to Planning and Public Works Committee and Council.
  • Reviews and provides comments on all consultant reports pertaining to wastewater treatment to ensure recommendations are viable and comply with Federal, Provincial and Regional Standards.
  • Develops the plan for wastewater levels of activity and accomplishment for inclusion in the operating budget, monitors, approves all related expenditures, and participates in variance review and reporting requirements.
  • Assists with the development of policies, levels of service, special studies and operating procedures to ensure the required technical data is available.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
