Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the City Solicitor, the Manager, Realty Services oversees the City’s land and real property asset portfolio and program, including guiding and executing the acquisition, disposition, expropriation and leasing of property.
 
On a day-to-day basis you will lead complex negotiations to dispose of surplus municipal property; draft legal agreements and provisions related to real estate; create, advise and interpret policy, procedures and practices related to property; develop strong business relationships and partnerships with external contacts; review and interpret property appraisals and establish market value; approve draft plans of surveys relative to real estate; prepare and present reports to Council; acquire property for capital works and recreation projects, parkland and strategic land or building assets; oversee the expropriation process and negotiation of related settlement agreements; and represent the City’s interest in all real estate matters at the Superior Court of Ontario, the Ontario Municipal Board, and the Board of Negotiation.  In addition, you will prepare and monitor the division’s operation budget, and be responsible for the hiring, discipline, dismissal, performance management and training of staff, in consultation with the Human Resources department.
 
A post -secondary degree in Business Real Property, Urban Land Economics or a related field, along with a minimum 7 years of experience in real property law, preferably in a municipal environment along with completion of or working toward Senior Right of Way designation with the International Right of Way Association and/or Appraiser designation with the Appraisal Institute of Canada, will be required for your success in this role. Your supervisory experience, along with demonstrated knowledge of various Acts related to the position, demonstrated skills related to analytical, organizational, communication, customer service, time management, and initiative are a must to be successful in this role.
 
Salary:           $88,546 - $103,586
