Primary Duties

Reporting to the Director, Water and Wastewater Operations, the Manager, Water and Wastewater Treatment Operations, manages a team of interdisciplinary operational and maintenance staff and provides leadership to the Treatment Team. He/she directs staff in departmental planning of operational/capital improvements for the Treatment Facilities. He/she advises on regulatory compliance for the Treatment Facilities, directs and provides technical assistance to staff, assists in the preparation of and monitoring of the budgets, and ensures effective communication between both staff and departments, and with the public. He/she will also participate in the recruitment and retention of staff, collaborate to establish standards of performance, and evaluate annual performance and individual developmental requirements. He/she will perform any additional duties that may be assigned by the employer.
Education and Qualifications

  • Minimum post-secondary College diploma in Environmental or Civil Technology or an acceptable and equivalent combination of education, certification, training and professional experience directly related to the Water and Wastewater treatment industry. A CET or P.Eng designation will be considered an asset. A minimum 5 years of practical experience in the Water and Wastewater Treatment field. Certification in water and wastewater treatment will be considered an asset. Work experience at the supervisory/management level is preferred.
  • Experience and proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite of Products to perform a variety of work.
  • Knowledge of applicable O.H.S.A. and Ministry of Environment regulations. Must have good knowledge of Mechanical/Electrical systems. Knowledge of and understanding of public utilities infrastructures is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to formulate, interpret and explain policies, rules and regulations. Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated skills to establish and maintain good working relationships with colleagues and staff, and the ability to demonstrate the corporate values.
  • Ability to analyze information, identify problems, project consequences, and make recommendations or develop solutions. Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and delegate work.
  • Ability to foster innovativeness by encouraging and being receptive to suggestions and new ideas, and to apply change management strategies to facilitate the adaptation of new policies, procedures and technologies. 
Special Working Conditions/Conditions of Employment

  • Maintain a Valid "G" driver's license throughout employment.
  • The ability and willingness to acquire additional certifications in water and wastewater treatment as necessary and the ability to respond to emergency situations after working hours are conditions of employment.
