Primary Duties

Reporting to the Manager, Water and Wastewater Operations, the Supervisor provides day-to-day mentoring and supervision of field staff by organizing, directing and scheduling field operations for the Water and Wastewater Operations Group. The Supervisor also has responsibilities for assigning work activities, projects and programs, evaluating work products, methods and procedures, implementing corporate and health and safety policies, and ensuring the timely delivery of services by liaising with others to ensure project milestones are properly supported. Supervisory functions include hiring, training, monitoring employee performance, preparing performance reviews and other related supervisory responsibilities. The successful incumbent will continue to foster co-operative efforts amongst staff, as well as independent thinking and decision-making as situations dictate. The Supervisor will also participate in departmental planning and formulation of strategic initiatives for service improvement, assist in the preparation of the budget, establish, monitor and report on departmental goals and metrics and advise on alternative processes and procedures that streamline or improve the effectiveness of departmental operations. 
Education and Qualifications

  • Minimum post-secondary College Diploma in an environmental technology or another field relevant to the duties of the position or an acceptable and equivalent combination of education, certification, training and experience in a field directly related to the water and wastewater treatment industry. A C.E.T. designation will be considered an asset.
  • A minimum of 5 years exposure to water and wastewater treatment legislation, regulations and programs. Certification in Water and Wastewater Treatment to the level of the treatment facilities is required.
  • Supervisory experience is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of applicable Canadian and Ontario codes and standards is required including the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations.
  • Excellent interpersonal, mentoring and people skills that enable positive interactions within a team environment. Ability to make reasoned decisions quickly and utilize sound judgment.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate the corporate values.
Special Working Conditions/Conditions of Employment

  • Valid Class “G” Driver’s license.
  • The ability and willingness to acquire additional certifications in water and wastewater treatment as necessary, and the ability to respond to emergency situations after working hours are conditions of employment.
