The City of Kitchener is a vibrant and dynamic city of approximately 240,000, in the heart of southwestern Ontario. Forward-thinking, the city is in the midst of developing a corporate climate action plan that will further its sustainability efforts.
To position the organization well for continued success, the City has recently realigned its corporate structure, creating a new Corporate Services Department. To lead this new department, Kitchener is seeking a General Manager, Corporate Services.
Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the General Manager, Corporate Services will champion a culture of innovation while sustaining the high level of employee engagement currently enjoyed at the City of Kitchener. You will ensure effective and efficient internal service within a ‘business partner’ approach, advance initiatives in support of a strong workplace culture and employee engagement, ensure effective external communications, and champion the City’s corporate innovation agenda.  Your portfolio will include providing strategic direction to the City’s senior team of professionals, and ultimately leading a team of 135 employees in: Corporate Communications & Marketing, Human Resources, Legal Services, Legislated Services/City Clerk, Technology Innovation & Services, and staff in the Office of the Mayor & Council. A visionary and strategic leader with experience in a public sector, unionized environment, you are a creative problem solver with a collaborative approach, and will champion the mission and values of the City to foster a positive and innovative workplace culture.
As a member of our corporate leadership team, through a collaborative consensus-based approach, you will play a key role in developing corporate strategy, including providing high-level financial direction, participating in priority-setting, and being a champion for a strong organizational culture. Your strong political acumen and respect for the partnership between administrative staff and Council ensure that you are a responsive direct liaison to City Council.
You have proven confident, proactive leadership capabilities and are a strategic thinker who has demonstrated success in a senior management role within the public sector. Your exceptional interpersonal skills have earned you a reputation for building a positive, accountable work culture and developing and inspiring strong management teams and staff.  A model example of exceptional commitment to customer service, you set the standard for a department that strives to provide the highest quality of services to Kitchener citizens.
