Job Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Manager, Works Maintenance, the successful candidate will undertake the co-ordination of contract maintenance activities and other functions related to municipal works operations.
Duties and Responsibilities
Specific duties include:
  • Assist the Manager, Works Maintenance in all aspects of contract administration including estimating, contract preparation and contract supervision; maintenance of construction logs for payments and general records
  • Monitor expenditures within budget allocations
  • Co-ordination of construction activities with contractors, supervisors, inspectors as required
  • Assist in the preparation of departmental reports
  • Respond to complaints and enquiries relating to maintenance activities
  • Supervise staff assigned to maintenance contracts
  • Liaises with staff in Operations of the Yards to ensure collaborative and effective use of City resources
  • Assist in winter control and work activities throughout the year including working shifts, vacation relief and 24 hour “on-call” for emergencies
  • Enrolment in Winter Maintenance program
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Skills and Qualifications
  • A minimum of five years of municipal maintenance and construction experience
  • Must have successfully completed a Civil Engineering program from a Community College and possess, or currently in the process of obtaining, a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T) designation
  • Must have demonstrated ability to administer maintenance contracts and understanding of basic budget monitoring functions including demonstrated attention to detail
  • Ability to effectively co-ordinate, direct and supervise the activities of various maintenance contracts assigned
  • Must have strong computer skills/aptitude in office software (i.e. Excel, Word, Hansen).
  • Demonstrated leadership potential to provide functional guidance to seasonal inspection staff
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills to effectively deal with the residents, contractors, developers, utility companies external agencies and other interested parties
  • Demonstrated tact and diplomacy when dealing with the public and elected officials
  • Effective decision making and problem solving skills with the ability to determine an effective course of action that drives progression
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple competing tasks
  • A current valid driver's license, possession of clean driving record and use of a reliable vehicle
Hourly Rate/Salary: $ 77,888.00 - $ 103,852.00
