Permit Technical Coordinator
Under the direction of the Supervisor, Maintenance Standards and Permits, the successful candidate will:
  • Review, comment and approve all types of Road Occupancy Permit applications, enforce City standard drawings, offsets, Public Utility Coordination Committee comments and uphold direction from our leadership team. Provide redline mark-ups as required.
  • Review the required fees and securities for all Road Occupancy Permit applications.
  • Daily coordination of active Road Occupancy Permit applications.
  • Understands the type and number of Transportation and Works permits that are active and ensure overlaps, bottlenecks, etc. are minimized.
  • Provide technical guidance to Customer Service Counter staff.
  • Maintain an up-to-date database of Road Occupancy Permits issued to utilities, contractors and other authorities performing work on City road allowances. Provide permit related metrics as required.
  • Conduct field safety, quality assurance and control audits of road occupancy permit sites as required.
  • Ensure that all complaints and service requests received from 3-1-1 concerning utility and other road occupancy permit related works within the right of way are investigated and resolved in a timely manner.
  • Attend and report utility related issues at the City of Mississauga Public Utility Coordinating Committee Meetings.
  • Provide guidance to field inspection staff, including trouble-shooting difficult permit related issues.
  • Provide expertise to the Supervisor in negotiating changes regarding permits with users, staff or external agencies.
  • Adhere to performance related metrics based on productivity.
  • Perform other duties as required.
  • Graduate from a post-secondary institution in a Civil Engineering Technology Program.
  • Certified or eligible for Certification with OACETT as a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.)
  • Must have a working knowledge of the various types of utility infrastructure, installation methods, and maintenance/construction practices.
  • A minimum of three years of related municipal construction experience is required.
  • Possess working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations as it pertains to the construction industry.
  • Familiar with Ontario Provincial Standards and Specifications (OPSS) and other municipal construction related specifications, standards and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of the municipal consent and municipal permitting processes is essential.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with residents, contractors, developers, utility companies, external agencies and members of council. The ability to demonstrate sound judgement, use tact and diplomacy, and possess excellent interpersonal skills is required.
  • Must demonstrate strong organizational and analytical skills with an aptitude for details to manage multiple competing tasks.
  • Must be able to work independently and as a part of a multi-faceted team.
  • Proven ability to establish effective working relationships with peers and unionized staff.
  • Working knowledge of MS office products is essential; experience with INFOR Public Sector Application Software is considered an asset.
  • A valid Ontario Class 'G' driver's license and availability of personal vehicle.
Hours of Work: 40 hours per week
Salary: $60,142 - $80,190
