The incumbent will be a highly motivated self-starter who brings a team-oriented approach, strong project management skills and enthusiasm to the role while working in tandem with the Public Works and Fire Department teams.
Under the general direction of the Director of Public Works, The Fleet Foreman will supervise the Townships fleet maintenance staff, manage the Townships fleet assets and perform a variety of skilled tasks involving minor and major mechanical service and repair of Fire Trucks, Fire Apparatus, Aerial Equipment, Fire Rescue Vehicles, Miscellaneous Fire Equipment, Passenger Vehicles and Heavy Equipment.

  • Possess or willing to obtain within the first six months of employment: Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) Certification.
  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent.
  • A valid Ontario Class 'D' Drivers License with 'Z' endorsement.
  • Class “T” Motor Vehicle Certificate as issued by the Ministry of Education.
  • Class “S” Motor Vehicle Certificate as issued by the Ministry of Education.
  • Diesel Endorsement as issued by the Ministry of Education and Training.
  • Knowledge of the Ontario Ministry of Transportation, the Highway Traffic Act, and respective guidelines set out in the Commercial Vehicle Operators Registration (C.V.O.R.); and the National Safety Code.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Minimum five years supervisory experience, preferably in a unionized environment.
  • Minimum five years’ experience with the repair, maintenance, and inspection of light vehicle/equipment and heavy construction equipment, including hydraulic systems.
Position Responsibilities
  • Performs maintenance and oversees the mechanical work on municipally owned emergency vehicles and fire apparatus, passenger, medium and heavy-duty vehicles, off-road vehicles; and gas, diesel and propane powered equipment.
  • Lead and manage both municipal employees and contracted service providers involved in mechanical maintenance, including but not limited to; work assignments, scheduling, hiring, and performance management.
  • Manage the daily operations and provide recommendations for improvements to fleet mechanical facilities ensuring the sites meet all applicable work place legislation and regulations.
  • Work in conjunction with other Township departments to coordinate mechanical operations and requirements.
  • Maintain maintenance records as required under the Highway Traffic Act.
  • May be required to respond to emergency repair calls outside of regular schedule.
  • Identify health and safety hazards or concerns and maintain all work areas in a safe, clean condition at all times
Hours of Work
  • Normal hours of work are 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays and to be on call as required.
Salary range for the position is $74,872 - $88,152 per annum based with an attractive benefits package.
