Temporary- Full-time (Covering Maternity Leave)
35-hours per week

Under the direction of the Director of Planning, this position will perform the tasks associated with development control/land use planning and preparation of related reports and documents and will provide assistance to other planning staff and the Director.
  • Requires University degree in Planning or a related field from a recognized university or equivalent, combined with at least one year of related municipal experience.
  • Must be eligible for provisional or full membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners/Ontario Professional Planners Institute.
  • Knowledge of planning principles, concepts, practices, methods and applicable legislation is required.
  • Word processing, spreadsheet and database computer skills required; familiarity with computer assisted mapping software programs would be an asset.
  • Must have a general understanding of municipal government with the ability to interpret policies and regulations of the Planning Act and other applicable municipal and provincial legislation.
  • Class “G” Driver’s Licence in good standing is required.
  • Provides administrative and technical support to planning initiatives as directed.
  • Prepares development control documents including zoning by-laws and amendments including minor variances, reviews and assesses subdivision plans, site plans and related studies, reports and agreements.
  • Undertakes development control related research on a variety of planning issues and prepares reports related to these matters.
  • Analyzes (including site inspections) and evaluates planning and related development issues.
  • Provides expert planning testimony before administrative tribunals such as the Ontario Municipal Board.
  • Provides technical interpretation on land use planning to other Town Departments and ensures all related legislative and regulatory requirements are met.
  • Assesses building permit applications to comply with applicable Town planning documents.
  • Ensures Departmental project tracking system remains current.
  • Attends and/or makes presentations at public and professional forums.
  • Collects application fees ensuring proper fees are paid for the various applications; explains fee structure to applicants.
Salary Range: $54,410.72 – $67,922.40 annually- commensurate on experience
Contract Dates: October 1, 2017 – October 1, 2018
