Requires a Communications Assistant
Contract (12 Months)
Reporting to the Director, Corporate Communications, the Communications Assistant acts as the first point of contact for Corporate Communications and is responsible for providing a wide range of communication, administrative and office support to the Department, Director and CAO when required. This position coordinates Town Halls and other corporate communications and events; undertakes research as assigned and maintains paper and electronic files.  This position also manages the public education needs for Central York Fire Services and supports the corporate marketing and communications needs of other portfolios and departments.
How do I qualify?
  • Completion of a three-year college diploma in Communications & Public Relations or a university degree with a post graduate certificate in Public Relations / Corporate Communications or University Degree in Communications combined with demonstrated experience, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience. 
  • Advanced communication and customer service skills to maintain a positive and welcoming image and environment to deal with the general public and staff courteously and effectively and experience dealing with sensitive and confidential matters.
  • Working knowledge of general office/administrative tasks.
  • Working knowledge of municipal government, legislation, and regulations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and the application of the principles of media relations, marketing and public relations.
  • Demonstrated experience in public relations, communication and/or journalism including writing, editing, designing, layout and production of print and electronic communications.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal effectively and courteously with the public and officials at all levels, and to maintain confidentiality.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), graphics and web publishing applications (Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator), and social media such as Twitter and Facebook.
  • Highly developed oral and written communication skills, problem-solving skills, and the ability to organize, shift priorities, multi-task and work independently.
  • Ability to work and excel in a fast paced, ever changing environment.
  • Availability to work unscheduled overtime and modified hours. 
  • Class “G” driver’s license in good standing with reliable vehicle for use on corporate business.
$26.88 - $33.60/hour
