The Township is currently seeking an experienced and highly motivated communications and public relations professional, with the knowledge, skills and abilities to fill the full time position of Communications & Public Relations Officer.
Reporting to the Director, Corporate Services, the Communications & Public Relations Officer shall provide communications leadership for the Township in the form of strategic communication planning, development and execution of communication plans and related tactics. The development of strategic communication will require the incumbent to work closely with the Mayor and/or Chief Administrative Officer. Responsibilities will range from complex to routine, dealing with matters highly confidential in nature, which will include discretion and professional decision making in accordance with prescribed policies and procedures, and will contribute to the efficient and professional operation of the Corporation.
The applicant must have superior knowledge of corporate communication theory, methods, techniques and practices normally acquired through a post-secondary degree or diploma in communications, public relations, journalism or a related discipline combined with a minimum of five (5) years of related experience. Municipal government experience would be considered an asset. Candidates must possess demonstrated sound political sensitivity and judgement along with political acuity. The position requires strong research, editorial, copywriting and proof-reading skills; excellent attention to detail, ability to check documents for accuracy, communicate detailed changes and ensure corrections are made, combined with strong organization and time management skills, the applicant must be able to handle multiple tasks under tight deadlines and have exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to think critically and strategically, effectively build and maintain partnerships and relationships with diverse groups of internal and external stakeholders while fostering an environment of accountability, innovation/continuous improvement and empowerment to anchor the Township’s commitment to Public Service Excellence.
This is a Management position and offers a salary commensurate with experience and education (Salary range $68,598 to $83,351), plus a competitive and attractive benefit package.
