MUNICIPAL CLERK

The Township is currently seeking an experienced professional, with the knowledge, skills and abilities to provide the statutory duties and responsibilities of the Corporation’s Municipal Clerk on a 15-month Contract with a possibility for extension or full time.
 
The Municipal Clerk shall perform all legislated and delegated requirements of the position and shall be responsible for the management and administration of the Clerk’s Service Division, including the Secretariat function, conducting Municipal Elections, the Corporate Real Estate portfolio, and shall act as a resource person to Council, Director, Corporate Services and the Chief Administrative Officer. The successful applicant will be responsible for the Municipal Election Process in accordance with the Municipal Elections Act, including election budget. You will be responsible for overseeing the Municipal Records Management System, the Corporate Real Estate Portfolio, Council agendas and minutes and shall be appointed the Head of the Institution for the purposes of the Municipal Freedom of Information & Protections of Privacy Act for the Corporation.
 
The applicant must have sound knowledge of Municipal By-Laws and related federal and provincial legislation & regulations, with a minimum of seven (7) years of related progressive experience in municipal government, of which five (5) years’ experience must be in supporting Council in a Clerk or Secretariat function. The successful candidate must hold a degree in political science, public administration or related discipline along with the Certified Municipal Officer designation. In addition, knowledge of the Municipal Act, Municipal Elections Act, Municipal Freedom of Information & Protections of Privacy Act is necessary. The position requires strong management and supervisory skills within a unionized environment, public relations, record keeping, problem-solving, report writing, project/time management, analytical, communication skills, both oral and written and shall exhibit excellent interpersonal skills.
 
In addition, the successful applicant must have the ability to think and act appropriately in a political and community service environment and to deal courteously and effectively with elected officials, the general public, residents, staff, other departmental, corporate contacts, businesses and other levels of government.
