WASTEWATER OPERATOR
FULL TIME PERMANENT
 
The Town of Penetanguishene is a picturesque community with a population of approximately 9000 located on the southerly tip of beautiful Georgian Bay. Under the direction of the Chief Wastewater Operator, the Wastewater Operator ensures the continuous and efficient operation of two sewage treatment plants, five pump stations and maintains the related buildings and equipment in good condition.
 
Wastewater Operator duties include but are not limited to:
  • Draw samples for laboratory chemical and bacteriological analysis.
  • Take and record readings from instruments such as flowmeters and pressure gauges.
  • Analyze instrument readings and make necessary adjustments to equipment.
  • Adjust pumping systems, blowers, sludge handling equipment, and chemical metering equipment in order to maintain steady operation.
  • Complete treatability tests to determine appropriate chemical dosing rates.
  • Evaluate, maintain, and repair equipment, tanks, and storage containers.
  • Prepare reports and maintain operating logs.
  • Respond to complaints from the public and inquiries from superiors and regulators.
 
All applicants must have the following qualifications:
  • Post-Secondary education in the field of Wastewater treatment or related field
  • Maintenance knowledge in mechanical, electrical and instrumentation systems
  • Possess a “Class 2” License for Wastewater Treatment
  • Knowledge of related legislation, laboratory sampling and field analysis
  • Ability to collect samples, analyze results and respond accordingly
  • Hold a valid G driver’s license and maintain a clean driving record
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel, record keeping and reporting skills
  • Comfortable working outdoors
  • Ability to respond to emergency call outs within 30 minutes when required and be available for overtime when needed
 
Compensation:
The starting rate of pay for this position is $59,134 per annum (2017 Pay Rate). This position also includes a comprehensive benefit and pension plan. This position has a 40 hour work week; Monday to Friday 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Response to calls after regular business hours is a requirement of this position.
