Manager, Public Works
 
The incumbent is responsible for coordinating and managing all programs associated with Municipal property maintenance and repair, including roads, bridges, culverts, storm sewers, sidewalks, winter control, municipal parks and open space, trails, sport fields, storm water management facilities, and urban forests and cemeteries. The incumbent is responsible for all programs associated with fleet acquisition, maintenance and repair including vehicles and equipment. The incumbent is responsible for the review, revision and consolidation of policies, work practices and service standards, developing and controlling operational budgets and capital requirements, establishing contractual requirements, directing and training staff and conducting performance reviews.
 
Successful applicants will possess the following:
 
  • Post-Secondary Degree/Diploma in Civil Engineering, Landscape Architecture, Horticulture or related discipline combined with an in depth knowledge of roads and parks operations and current best practices.
  • Designation as a Certified Road Supervisor (CRS).
  • Membership in Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologist as a CET or C.Tech is an asset.
  • Seven years’ progressively more responsible experience in a municipal public works/operations environment, including at least four years in a management capacity supervising unionized staff.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of Municipal Operations including applicable health & safety legislation and provincial regulations.
  • Above average communication skills and a strong customer service orientation to deal effectively with the public, staff, community group representatives and elected officials.
  • Proven leadership, supervisory and management, planning, organizational and public relations skills to establish and maintain effective business relationships with all levels of employees.
  • Good working knowledge of collective agreement interpretation and administration.
  • Ability to work with multiple priorities in an active environment.
  • Demonstrable proficiency in the use of personal computers and Windows-based computer applications.
  • Must be prepared to undergo a Criminal Reference Check as a condition of employment.
  • A valid Class G Ontario Driver’s Licence and a personal vehicle are required for the performance of duties. There may also be the requirement to drive a municipal vehicle, as such ongoing consent to obtain driver abstracts from the Ministry of Transportation is mandatory. A clean driving record is preferred.
 
Compensation includes a comprehensive benefits package, pension plan and an annual salary range starting at $115,437.84 (based on a 35 hour work week).
