The Town of Plympton-Wyoming is comprised of lakefront, agricultural, and urban properties, offering a wide range of facilities and services to provide its residents with a comfortable community in which to live and to work.
 
We are a community with a population of 7,795, located within the north central portion of Lambton County in Southwestern Ontario. Fronting on the shores of Lake Huron, Plympton-Wyoming boasts accessibility to Highway 402 for convenient travel to Sarnia, London, Toronto, and the U.S.A.
 
On January 1, 2001, the Village of Wyoming and the Township of Plympton amalgamated to become the new Corporation of the Town of Plympton-Wyoming. The Town is governed by a seven-member Council, including a Mayor.
 
This new full-time position will provide an exciting and challenging opportunity for a qualified and experienced leader to join the Public Works Department as the Operations Coordinator. This position reports to the Director of Public Works. The Town of Plympton-Wyoming Public Works Department consists of two (2) works yards (Wyoming & Reece’s Corners) with a with a staff complement of approximately 11 full-time staff.
 
Key responsibilities:
  • Assist Director with the develop and maintain annual budgets and long-term capital plans
  • Assist Director with developing, issuing and reviewing RFQs, RFPs and tenders for goods and services
  • Oversee operations to ensure efficiency
  • Assist Director with preparing Council reports regarding budgets, expenditures, operations, legal matters, etc.
  • Review and approve permits for utility crossings, entrance culverts, oversized loads, road closures and installation of services
  • Identify and mitigate risk/liability in the operation and maintenance of municipal infrastructure
  • Develop in-house training and organize third-party training for staff
  • Manage and monitor staff performance and provide annual written evaluations
  • Assist in the development and ensuring adherence to health and safety regulations and policies
  • Coordinate daily with Foremen to ensure adequate resources and information are provided to carry out assigned tasks
  • Forward deficiencies/priority tasks to Foremen to be resolved/carried out expediently by staff
  • Regularly visit facilities, construction projects, development projects and operational projects to ensure compliance with applicable policies, procedures, specifications and regulations
  • Assist Foremen with the scheduling of annual maintenance projects
  • Ensure compliance with applicable provincial regulations 
  • Directly supervise staff in absence of Foremen
  • Assist with the management of the Water, Wastewater and Parks and Recreation departments during the Director's absences
  • Oversees the operations and maintenance of all public facilities
  • Correspond with the public in person, over the phone, through email and by mail to address concerns and inquiries
  • Ensure appropriate notifications to the public are issued in regards to road closures, capital projects, etc. 
 
Preferred Qualifications/Experience:
  • Obtained or working towards C.E.T. or C.Tech designation from the Association of Certified Engineers Technicians and Technologist
  • Obtained or working towards C.R.S. designation from the Association of Ontario Road Supervisors
  • A minimum of 5 years of municipal, public works or similar/related experience;
  • Must have demonstrated leadership and managerial ability; good communication skills; a proven work record in the area of personnel management;
  • Extensive knowledge of Health and Safety and other applicable Provincial Legislation, codes and Acts;
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills;
  • Must have good computer skills;
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s License.
  • An equivalent combination of experience and educations will be considered
 
Hours of Work: 40 hour work week, usual core hours are 7:30 – 4:30 P.M. Monday through Friday, additional time may be required to attend meetings and attend emergency calls.
 
Our Town offers a salary range of $73,174 - $91,458 (2018 Salary Grid) with a competitive benefit, pension.
