Director of Works and Engineering

Responsible to: Council
The Director of Works and Engineering is responsible for the effective planning, administration and management in the divisions of Transportation; Water (Treatment and Distribution); Wastewater (Treatment and Collection); Engineering; and Planning in accordance with best practices and all applicable Municipal, Provincial and Federal Acts, Regulations, Policies and Standards. As a member of the Labour Relations Committee, works with the Directors to address Corporate and employee and labour relations matters.
  • University degree in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technologist designation or equivalent required; a Licensed Professional Engineer preferred.
  • A minimum of eight (8) years municipal experience in Public Works with five (5) years management experience. Management work experience in a unionized environment required.
  • A skilled people manager with leadership skills, including coaching, team building and employee development.
  • Demonstrated communication skills, both verbal and written; customer service focused; interpersonal skills; long term and proactive planning skills; analytic, problem solving and decision making skills.

Hours:   Thirty–five (35) hours per week (some requirement for work outside of the office hours)
Compensation: $100,955 – $122,722 per annum
Benefits:       Group Health, Dental and Life Insurance benefit plan after three months and
       OMERS Pension Plan as of date of hire.
