Position Summary
Reporting to the Director of Planning, Economic Development & Transit, the Manager of Planning will coordinate the evaluation of development applications received by the County, provide direction and counsel on development proposals and act as a liaison with internal departments, provincial and federal governments, agencies and stakeholders. The manager will coordinate long-range plans, policies, and special studies that guide the future growth of the municipality, conduct planning research, including the collection and analysis of statistical and demographic data, as well as participate in the County growth planning process.
Position Requirements
University degree in Urban Planning or related discipline.
Eligibility for or holder of the RPP designation and full membership in the Ontario Provincial Planners Institute.
Nine (9) years previous experience in long range municipal land-use and policy planning, including some experience in a management capacity that includes supervisory experience in a unionized environment.
Demonstrated understanding of infrastructure planning and delivery methods and processes.
Excellent time and project management skills.
Strong staff leadership and supervisory skills to build enthusiastic staff teams and external partnerships.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and facility with report writing and presentation preparation and delivery.
Strong conceptual and analytical skills with the ability to also think and act strategically in a political and community service environment.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with diplomacy and sensitivity with all levels of internal staff, Council, the public, and other stakeholders.
Thorough working knowledge of the Planning Act, the Municipal Act as it relates to planning issues, the Ontario Heritage Act, Provincial Policy Guidelines on land-use planning matters, other relevant planning-related legislation and regulations, OMB processes, urban planning principles and practices, the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Knowledge of labour relations principles and collective agreement administration would be considered a definite asset.
Computer literacy utilizing word-processing, spreadsheet, presentation and database software, related GIS and mapping applications, and the Internet.
Class G Driver’s License in good standing and reliable vehicle to use on corporate business.
Availability to attend evening or other events as required/assigned.
$97,722 - $117,269 per annum
