Program Description
 
Partners in Project Green: A Pearson Eco-Business Zone is an initiative focused on creating the largest eco-business zone in North America. A vast community comprised of businesses, government, institutions and utilities striving to strengthen and green Toronto Region's economy while protecting and enhancing the health of local watersheds and enviornment. Through new forms of business-to-business collaboration, Partners in Project Green delivers programming that helps businesses reduce energy and resource costs, uncover new business opportunities, and address everyday operational challenges in a green and cost effective manner. The program is managed by Toronto and Region Conservation (TRCA) with funding support from the Greater Toronto Airports Authority and TRCA partner municipalities.
 
Position Summary
 
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about business sustainability and eco-innovation. Using your leadership skills, innovation, and strategic vision, you will lead a highly motivated team to effectively deliver, monitor and report on green business initiatives in the Pearson Eco-Business Zone. You will act as primary spokesperson for the program and drive business and government engagement across the greater Toronto area developing and managing partnerships; supporting business innovation and eco-economic activity. Key responsibilities include:
  • Lead the implementation of program strategy working closely with a stakeholder governance committee;
  • Recruit business stakeholders, municipal partners and industry experts while fostering and facilitating creative sustainability solutions;
  • Lead business development partnerships and secure both conventional and non-conventional funding;
  • Manage program budget and develop innovative financial tools to support ongoing delivery of eco-business programming;
  • Lead program administration, evaluation, process improvements, procurement, and contract management;
  • Lead a team of staff and volunteers including performance management and staff development and change management;
  • Foster collaboration by facilitating internal and external “cross pollination opportunities”;
  • Prepare TRCA Board communications, Executive Committee reports, and make presentation as needed;
  • Represent Partner in Project Green at various networking event, think-tanks and panels, and attend media inquiries and interviews;
 
The position is based in Toronto, with direct report to TRCA and accountability to business leaders representing the project executive committee.
 
Key Accountabilities, Qualifications and Experience
 
  • A four year university degree or equivalent in business, economics, environment or a related discipline. A dual business and technical degree (s) is an asset;
  • An entrepreneurial spirit, with seven or more years of experience at a senior level in progressively more challenging positions, including supervisory experience;
  • Knowledge and understanding of environmental legislation and related business and municipal responsibilities, operations and general practices. Well versed in legislation and regulations concerning TRCA’s mandate;
  • Working knowledge and understanding of urban sustainability, industrial symbiosis, eco-business solutions, climate change and natural resource management;
  • Experience facilitating partnerships among businesses, academic and government/agency stakeholders that develop and support business innovation;
  • Strong business development and fundraising skills through innovative finance mechanisms;
  • Experience in brand building will be an asset;
  • Developing and implementing business strategy and corporate governance mechanisms;
  • Self-motivated and highly organized with a demonstrated strong commitment for the delivery of high quality customer service under tight deadlines;
  • Effective relationship management skills to facilitate multi-disciplinary support with staff teams within the organization;
  • Demonstrated experience in performance management reporting, budget and finance management and proven project management skills;
  • Excellent communication skills in all modes;
  • Computer literate and familiar with project management reporting and software programs, Microsoft Suite, as well as client relationship management software; and
  • Valid Driver’s Licence.
 
Salary Range
 
$113,992 to $122,153 per year
