Development Services Technician

Reporting to and under the direction of the Project Engineer (Development), the Development Services Technician is responsible for examining and commenting on development engineering submissions and reports in support of land development applications. Primary duties include, but are not limited to:
  • ensuring municipal standards and relevant legislation and guidelines are adhered to;
  • reviewing and commenting on various engineering reports, submissions, special studies and storm water management reports in support of subdivision and site plan applications;
  • attending meetings with consultants and developers;
  • responding to telephone, e-mail and counter inquiries;
  • performing miscellaneous non-specific or indirect development related duties as may be assigned, including assisting in the preparation of reports to Council; and
  • other tasks as may be assigned.
As the successful applicant you will possess:
  • a post-secondary diploma in Civil Engineering from a recognized Community College;
  • completion of various approved courses of the MTO and MOEE;
  • registration with the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT);
  • possess a  minimum of five (5) years diversified experience in the municipal field with specific emphasis relating to land development design and construction;
  • thorough knowledge and understanding of municipal design criteria and engineering requirements, surveys, computers, and Ministry processing;
  • a comprehensive understanding and working knowledge of storm water management (SWM);
  • strong reasoning, technical, and problem solving skills;
  • excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) in order to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, contractors, and the public;
  • well‑developed interpersonal and public relations skills;
  • the ability to work independently in a team environment;
  • the ability to prioritize and organize work in order to meet deadlines;
  • the ability to exercise discretion, judgement, and diplomacy;
  • the ability to work with a minimal amount of supervision; possess a demonstrated working knowledge of AutoCAD and MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); and,
  • a valid, unrestricted Class “G” Driver’s Licence in good standing with access to a personal vehicle.
Salary: $51,815 - $64,756 per annum
Hours: Monday to Friday - 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
