Reporting to the Superintendent of Fleet, and under the direction of the Head Technician, the Licensed Technician is responsible for:
  • performing preventative maintenance to reduce user department equipment down time and minimize wear on vehicles and equipment;
  • the inspection and repair of vehicles and equipment to the Ministry of Transportation standards, Town of Whitby Standards and Original Equipment Manufacturers standards (OEM);
  • troubleshooting and repairing hydraulic, electronic and drive train problems using various diagnostic tools (such as laptop computers, scan tools and multi-meters), manuals and hand tools;
  • initiating, completing and processing repair orders and maintain computerized fleet maintenance and stock control system;
  • assisting in repair estimates and parts co-ordination;
  • maintaining a clean and safe work environment;
  • creating and maintaining proper equipment maintenance records for provincial inspection, Town of Whitby and user department (internal and external) referral; and,
  • other duties as assigned.
 
As the successful applicant, you must possess:
  • a secondary school diploma;
  • a Class 310T Truck and Coach Technician License in good standing;
  • a Class 310S Automotive Technician License in good standing;
  • a Natural Gas License (ICE-NG) and Propane License (ICE-P) in good standing;
  • a Commercial Vehicle Wheel Service Certificate;
  • a valid Class “DZ” Driver’s Licence maintained in good standing;
  • a minimum of four (4) years directly related experience;
  • related experience and knowledge of on-board vehicle computerized systems;
  • knowledge of current vehicle electrical management systems;
  • strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills;
  • the ability to use computerized fleet systems and electronic manuals;
  • strong technical, numerical, analytical and research skills;
  • the ability to communicate verbally and in written form in a clear, concise and courteous manner;
  • strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public;
  • the ability to lead and work effectively in a team environment as well as independently with minimal supervision;
  • the ability to exercise discretion, judgement and diplomacy;
  • the ability to perform heavy physical labour (push, pull and lift up to 50 pounds); and,
  • the ability to work a rotating shift schedule. 
 
The successful applicant will be required to supply a complete set of hand tools related to the Class 310T and 310S Technician position.
 
Salary: $30.61 to $38.27 per hour
 
Hours: Flex hours and rotating shifts, Monday through Friday
