Location: Newmarket, Ontario. These are Union positions.
Casual/On-Call, Salary: $31.21 - $33.91 per hour
Position Purpose
Reporting to the Supervisor, Access York, is responsible for providing direct services to applicants, clients, service providers and the general public in a telephone contact centre environment; soliciting information to determine services that the caller requires; determining initial eligibility for various Department services; making referrals to Department staff, other Departments and community agencies; processing applications; and producing standard reports.
  • Successful completion of a Community College Diploma in Social Services, Business Administration or a related discipline, or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum three (3) years demonstrated experience delivering service to clients in a social service or call centre environment.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Records Check.
  • Program knowledge of Social Assistance, Family & Children’s Services and Housing & Residential Services.
  • Knowledge of, and demonstrated ability in, corporate core competencies including customer service, communication, teamwork, initiative/ self-management and accountability, and flexibility/adaptability.
  • Knowledge of current legislation related to Ontario Works, Family and Children’s Services and Housing programs.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and decision making skills and basic numeric skills.
  • Computer literacy in a Windows environment utilizing word processing, spreadsheet and database applications at an intermediate level and competent in conducting Internet searches.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide high-quality customer service to applicants and clients in a fair and expedient manner.
  • Ability to exercise confidentiality, discretion and good judgement in dealing with clients and team members.
  • Ability to relate in an objective and empathetic way to customers.
  • Ability to work outside regular business hours, as required.
