Salary: $36.39 -  $39.56 per hour
Full-Time, 37.5 hours per week
Position Purpose:
Reporting to the Supervisor, Long Term Care Maintenance and Security, is responsible for maintaining a safe and hazard-free environment for residents, staff and visitors of the Region’s Long Term Care Health Centres by directing the necessary and scheduled maintenance and/or upkeep tasks of the physical buildings, and equipment; providing guidance, training, mentoring, and co-ordinating, assigning, scheduling and checking the work of assigned staff.
  • Successful completion of a Community College Diploma in Stationary Engineering or related field or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Completion of related technical courses in areas such as plumbing, electrical and gas fitting.
  • Valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s license and reliable vehicle for use on corporate business.
  • Minimum three (3) years facilities maintenance experience.
  • Knowledge of/or direct experience with computerized repair and preventative maintenance programs.
  • Satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Checks (PVSC).
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies including customer service, communication, team work, initiative/self-management and accountability and flexibility/adaptability.
  • Computer skills utilizing MS office software applications and computerized preventative maintenance programs.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills to work within a diverse community and ability to deal empathetically with residents, family members, etc., to contribute to their well-being.
  • Ability to work effectively independently or as a part of a team.
  • Leadership ability to provide guidance, training and mentoring and to coordinate, assign, schedule, and check the work of assigned staff.
  • Ability to set priorities and organize workload, complete assigned duties within an established schedule and handle emergencies effectively.
  • Physical ability to lift heavy objects, climb and work at high elevations, using a ladder, as required.
  • Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability by adjusting approaches, as needed.
  • Stays abreast of new and innovative approaches and brings forward new ideas for consideration; understands and uses technology to improve work processes and achieve outcomes.
  • Ensures accountability and high quality and accuracy of work.
  • Understands organizational goals and strategies and how they relate to their work.
  • Understands their role and the role of others in the organization to ensure effective collaboration with colleagues, external and internal partners to meet client needs.
  • Ability to work on-call duties and outside regular business hours, as required.
