Under the direction of the Manager, Transportation Planning, responsible for managing transportation issues and projects that require extensive knowledge and experience in transportation and land use planning; transportation and transit planning; review of transportation impacts of official plans, secondary plans and major development applications; transportation demand management; and assists the Manager in preparing budgets and monitoring expenditures.
QUALIFICATIONS
- University degree in Urban Planning, Transportation Engineering or Planning or related discipline or equivalent approved combination of education or experience.
- Registration with a recognized professional planning or engineering organization.
- Minimum five (5) years demonstrated experience (inclusive of E.I.T. experience) managing complex transportation planning projects.
- Thorough knowledge of transportation planning principles, concepts, practices, methods and legislation, GTA context and roles of different levels of government.
- Demonstrated knowledge of transit systems, roads planning, transportation demand management, travel demand modelling and sustainable transportation principles, concepts, practices, methods and legislation.
- Knowledge of and demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies including customer service, communication, team work, initiative/self management and accountability, and flexibility/adaptability.
- Management competencies including results/achievement focus, human resources management, leadership, financial management, business planning, decision making/judgement, representation and professionalism and job knowledge.
- Computer literacy utilizing MS Office software applications as well as proficiency with the application of specialized software relevant to the technical specialty.
- Contemporary staff supervisory skills including knowledge of collective agreement interpretation and relevant employment legislation.
- Ability to identify issues, challenges and opportunities and propose solutions.
- Ability negotiate/facilitate, build consensus and present information to varied audiences.
- Leadership ability to motivate staff and foster a positive team environment.
- Ability to work outside normal business hours as required.
