COMPENSATION ANALYST
Human Resources Department
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Technical support. Provide analytical support regarding compensation practices, policies, and programs. Prepare costing scenarios for collective bargaining and other actions that have an impact on salaries and compensation rates which includes cycle driven adjustments such as ATB (across the board), market adjustment, etc. Research compensation trends and prepare reports to assist the City in establishing equitable rates/salaries for all employee groups. Annual reviews will be conducted for summer students, part-time, and co-op student rates. Participate in external surveys, customized compensation salary surveys and compile reports for review by Management. Provide statistical reports through benchmarking exercises to ensure market and internal competitiveness. Perform salary administration calculations to support the Performance Management program such as merit increases and temporary upgrades. Partner with the Human Resources Assistant, Data Management to ensure the timelines for payroll processing is met.
2. Compensation administration. Prepare financial analysis of Job Evaluation results for Peoplesoft data entry purposes. Perform calculations and analyse data for troubleshooting or informative reporting. Assist with other Compensation reviews and validate job documentation to ensure it is complete and appropriate. Participate in the CUPE and Non-Union Role Profile Job Evaluation activities as an alternate resource, when required. Assist the Compensation and Benefit Advisor with the preparation of policies and procedures as they relate to job analysis and internal equity practices.
3. Customer service. Assist Human Resources Advisors by providing support for assigned client groups through representation at various operating department meetings. Meet with professionals and business line managers to assist in the resolution of compensation and job evaluation issues that might arise. Answer telephone, email and face-toface inquiries from leaders and staff or directs calls to the appropriate HR department staff. Provide education about the programs and processes. In collaboration with the HRAs, ensure job descriptions and compensation practices are current to promote a seamless recruiting process.
4. Analysis and review. Conduct industry research on issues, special studies, and identified needs. Analyse data received and prepare statistical reports for Management review. Keep abreast of industry trends on compensation practices and prepare related reports along with recommendations to remain competitive.
5. Compliance. Ensure all programs, policies, and procedures are in accordance with legislative requirements, and strictly protect data security and privacy. Provide analysis associated with legislative changes and impacts.
6. Teamwork. Partner with Compensation - Job Analyst on special projects and provide back-up as required.
