Position Summary
Reporting to the Senior Transportation Project Manager in the Infrastructure Planning Division of the Engineering Services Department, the Transportation Planning Project Coordinator is responsible to assist, plan and coordinate transportation planning projects. The Transportation Planning Project Coordinator duties include but are not limited to assessing the long range transportation network needs, coordinating and implementing projects including active transportation, participating on inter-regional transportation projects, undertaking environmental assessments for new transportation corridors, assist with the preparation of terms of reference and procurement, facilitate coordinated meetings, liaise with internal staff, contractors, consultants, residents, utility companies, fire department and government agencies and preparation and presentation of communication materials and reports. 
  • Possess a three (3) year community College diploma in Transportation Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering or related field with a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) designation.
  • Eligible for Registered Professional Planner (RPP), Professional Engineer (P.Eng) and/or Project Management Professional (PMP) designation will be considered an asset.
  • Have four (4) years of demonstrated experience in transportation engineering or transportation planning with experience administering multi-modal transportation projects and programs.
  • Experience and knowledge of current planning and design standards for municipal transportation, including the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment Process.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of transportation and urban planning principles and the interrelationship between transportation and land use.
  • Knowledgeable of the Highway Traffic Act, Planning Act, Environmental Assessment Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Ontario Provincial Standard Specifications, Work Zone Safety and other applicable legislations and specifications.
  • Strong verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Familiar with planning process, design specifications, traffic operations, complete street principles, and tangible practices from utilities and service connections.
  • Proficient in preparing proposals, contracts, work plans, and budgets.
  • Ability to coordinate contractors, consultants and staff effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships.
  • Strong knowledge of data collection procedures and interpretation, especially in regards to quantitative date in the transportation field.
  • Excellent research, and writing skills to convincingly present and convey issues, ideas and concepts.
  • Excellent analytical skills with demonstrated knowledge of statistical analysis techniques.
  • Experienced in computer applications including MS Office, MS Project, and AutoCAD Civil 3D, transportation planning and traffic operations software (SYNCHRO).
  • Possess a valid Class 'G' driver's license in good standing during the course of employment.
  • Ability to work outside normal business hours, as required.
