Reporting to the Supervisor, Facilities Maintenance the Facilities Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining, operating, and repairing all HVAC, plumbing and heating systems; conducts preventive maintenance ensuring optimal conditioning of mechanical systems, pumps, water supply, and electrical systems and emergency generators; and performs/monitors renovations
  • Provides maintenance and emergency repairs to equipment related to DRP buildings and facilities (i.e. boilers, chillers, cooling towers, HVAC systems, sewage pumps, car wash, air filters, overhead doors, furniture water treatment systems, fire alarm systems, backup generators, etc.)
  • Repairs plumbing, electrical, drywall, flooring, doors, and locks
  • Performs renovations (i.e. wall removal, constructing new walls/office, electrical, and plumbing)
  • Ensures safe and effective use of equipment and power tools including for the maintenance and repair of electrical, mechanical, and plumbing etc. systems
  • Provides access to DRPS facilities as required by service providers and contractors and monitors for security
  • Transports and reconfigures workstations, desks, offices, lockers, and storage
  • Ensures compliance with building, electrical, and health and safety codes/directives
  • Provides intermittent on-call service for all major disruptions to facility emergencies
  • Other duties, projects, as assigned (individual or group responsibilities)
  • Completion of specialized apprenticeship (8000/9000 hours) such as electrician, carpenter, industrial mechanic, HVAC controls, gas fitter or refrigeration
  • Must have a valid Ontario Driver's licence - G Class
  • Minimum 2 years with relevant maintenance (post apprenticeship) working experience 
  • Proven computer competency at a basic level with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word and Excel)
  • Proven accurate alpha and numeric data entry skills
  • Interactions with internal and external contacts require tact and courtesy. May relay unwelcome information when working with public to repair DRPS-caused damage to property
  • Interpersonal and effective communication skills with multiple levels and sources for listening and comprehension
  • Well-developed time management, prioritization, multi-tasking and organizational skills
  • Proven ability to interact diplomatically, tactfully and confidentially with all levels of the service and the public
  • Experience with Building Automation Systems will be considered an asset
Monday to Friday / Day Shift (may occasionally require flexibility in hours or overtime)
Salary Level
This is a Level 7 position ($74,353) based on the 2015-2018 Collective Agreement. The salary range is outlined below:
  • Year 2 - $77,737
  • Year 3 - $81,117
  • Year 4 - $84,492

Preference will be given to applicants that are licenced HVAC mechanics (313A) with a gas fitters licence and HVAC controls experience.
