CAO Clerk Treasurer
           Due to the pending retirement of the incumbent Clerk Treasurer Administrator, Council of the Township of Fauquier-Strickland is seeking candidates for the position.
            The Township of Fauquier-Strickland is a small rural municipality located halfway between Smooth Rock Falls and Kapuskasing and encompasses 3 small communities (Fauquier, Grégoire Mills and Strickland) and over 5 geographic townships.
            Reporting to Council, the CAO Clerk Treasurer will be responsible for the various statutory duties in accordance with provincial legislation for the responsibilities of the Clerk and of the Treasurer.  The CAO Clerk Treasurer is also an integral advisor to the Mayor and Council in supporting the development and implementation of strategic objectives and policies in the interest of a sustainable municipality.  In addition, the CAO Clerk Treasurer builds strong working relationships with stakeholders and provides leadership to staff by fostering a culture of excellence throughout the organization.
            The primary responsibilities include preparation for and attending Council meeting, preparation and administration of the yearly budgets and direction of the financial administration of the municipality.  The successful candidate will also be responsible for the preparation of reports and by-laws, conducting municipal elections every four years and advise on matters of land management under the Planning Act and for the overall direction of the economic development of the municipality.
The ideal candidate will have:
  • A minimum of five years of experience in municipal administration and an understanding of local governments.
  • Post-secondary education in public administration, finance and or accounting or a combination thereof.
  • A working knowledge of the Municipal Act, Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, Municipal Elections Act, Municipal Conflict of Interest Act, the Employment Standards Act, parliamentary procedure and knowledge of the current legislation affecting Municipal water systems.
  • The ability to fluently communicate both verbally and in writing in both official languages.
  • Municipal Administration Program certificate, working knowledge of the iCity financial software and GIS system will be considered an asset.
  • Demonstrate computer, public relations, report writing, problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Commit to personal and professional development.
            This position is classified as permanent full-time (35 hours per week) with evening meetings.  Salary will be negotiated in accordance with qualifications and experience.  The municipality offers an excellent benefit package.
