The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Supervisor, Water Treatment to join our Sudbury Operations.
 
To contribute to the success of the Water Treatment Plants organization by applying specialized knowledge of Vale policies, legislated standards, design criteria and industry best practices and developing, implementing and maintaining management systems that ensure compliance to all standards.
 
Accountabilities:
  • Available at all times to direct the Operators in Charge (OIC) for operations of the potable & waste water treatment plants, to provide operational oversight and to respond immediately and effectively to emergencies.
  • Ensure all licensed operators act and behave with a view to ensuring the safety of public health and for the protection of the environment and to maintain the integrity of the operator certification/ license program
  • Liaise with VALE Environmental Control and Government Agencies and agents.
  • Act as management’s Overall Responsible Operator (ORO) and maintain all required operating licenses as required by Regulations according to plant classification.
  • Develop, implement, maintain, and audit management systems to achieve and sustain compliance with VALE policies, legislated standards, design criteria and industry best practice.
  • Accept and process 1st stage grievances for treatment plant operators. Liaise with the area Industrial Relations Representative and Manager on CBA related issues.
 
Education:
  • The ideal candidate will have a minimum of a high school diploma with an additional 2-4 years of post secondary studies in the environmental, chemical or civil backgrounds.

 

Experience:

  • The ideal candidate will have 2-5 years of supervisory and water treatment operational experience. Ability to respond to emergency situations. Ability to manage a unionized workforce with minimal supervision.

 

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Shall possess valid MECP certification for Class III Water Treatment and Class II Water Distribution and Supply. May consider a Level II Water Treatment license holder.
  • Working knowledge of applicable provincial legislation including but not limited to OWRA, SDWA, OHSA, Regs. 170/03, 128/04, 319/08, 903/90 and DWQMS.
  • Must have strong computer skills and experience with all Microsoft Office applications (SAP considered an asset).
  • Must be available for on-call and act as management’s ORO when required based upon licensing qualifications and respond to site within 30 minutes.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Strong knowledge of water and distribution system and wastewater treatment operations to facilitate proper operations of the facilities.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and take initiative, manage multiple and changing demands and priorities while working independently and with other staff.
  • Working knowledge of SCADA as it relates to Water Operations.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast paced highly regulated environment.
  • Excellent technical, and mechanical skills, and safe work practices.
  • Demonstrated strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent records management skills in compliance with provincial legislation and Vale policies.
  • First Aid, CPR, WHMIS, Confined Space, and Fall Protection training.
  • Knowledge related to Water and Wastewater Treatment Operations.

 

Base Compensation: $90,000.00 - $110,000.00 plus bonus (18% to 36%), plus benefits and pension
