Reporting to the Manager of Transportation, the Roads Supervisor is responsible for the following:
  • Overseeing repair and maintenance of roads, sidewalks, curbs, traffic signs, street lights, traffic signals, catch basins, boulevards, bridges and associated winter control operations; including salting/sanding, ploughing, and snow removal.
  • Monitoring staff to ensure the effective/safe operation of equipment, maintenance standards/expectations, seasonal operations, inspection/surveying to identify and respond to deficiencies.
  • Oversees and schedules complete safety device inspection and maintenance including signs, guardrails, and bridges and routine patrols verifying road conditions meet or exceed the Minimum Maintenance Standards as defined in the Municipal Act.
 
The successful applicant will possess:
  • Post-Secondary Diploma in Engineering or a combination of experience in the public works sector and completion of courses from municipal infrastructure and roads training programs.
  • Certified Road Supervisor (CRS) Designation or a Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) with the willingness and ability to obtain a CRS designation is required.
  • Certificate in Leadership Excellence is considered an asset.
  • Minimum of six (6) years‟ experience in a supervisory capacity within a municipality with a focus on roads operation and maintenance.
  • Valid class “G”, driver‟s license in good standing and reliable vehicle to use on corporate business when required; DZ licence considered an asset.
  • Computer literacy utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, presentation and database software, email and the Internet.
  • Ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public, staff, contractors etc. and executes duties in a tactful and courteous manner. Maintains professionalism and performs duties in a way which conveys a „positive image‟ of the Township.
  • Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekend hours as required; able to respond to emergency situations during evenings and weekends, even when not on call.
 
Yearly wage range: $99, 894 - $121, 881 (2021 rate) plus a comprehensive benefit package.
