Primary Duties
Reporting to the Director of Networking, the successful candidate will support the stable operations of Utilities Kingston’s SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) systems for all utilities. This will include installing, configuring, maintaining, securing, troubleshooting and optimizing all SCADA hardware, software and communication links. The successful incumbent will collaborate with utility operators, stations, lines and treatment group personnel in the installation, operation, and maintenance of SCADA equipment and provide end user training and support where required. The successful candidate will be expected to rotate into an on-call function after sufficient training and on the job experience.
Education, Certification and Other Qualifications Required
  • Minimum 3-year diploma from an accredited community college in an Electronic, Electrical or Instrumentation field, with experience utilizing SCADA systems. Experience in a utilities environment will be considered an asset.
  • C.E.T. designation or ability to obtain will be considered and asset.
  • Familiarity with various computer and communication systems including SCADA HMI Platforms, SCADA protocols (Modbus, CNP3, etc.), TCP/IP, UDP, Windows and Linux/Unix command line based operating systems. Candidates should identify all systems with which they have experience.
  • Experience with programming languages such as C/C++, .NET, or Python would be considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and understand complex written material, including technical drawings.
  • Demonstrated self-motivation, excellent problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Experience with network and computer system security practices.
  • Effective teamwork skills.
  • Good verbal/ written communication skills.
Special Working Conditions/Conditions of Employment
  • Maintain, at minimum, a valid Class “G” Driver’s License throughout employment.
