PLANNER
(Full Time Position)
35 Hours per Week
 
Background:
The Township of Lake of Bays is located in the northeast corner of Ontario's "Cottage Country", adjacent to world renowned Algonquin Park. Lake of Bays, being a part of Muskoka has traditionally been one of Ontario's premier destinations for family vacations and summer cottages. The Township encompasses four unique and inviting communities of Baysville, Dorset, Dwight and Hillside.
 
Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Director of Planning the successful candidate will:
  • Provide support to the Director of Planning in managing the resources for the Planning Department and responsible for the day-to-day planning functions of the department.
  • Project manage, analyze, and make recommendations on a range of development applications with varying degrees of complexity.
  • Prepare and/or oversee the preparation of notices, planning reports, zoning by-laws and official plan amendments and defend the position at the Local Planning Appeal Tribunal, when necessary.
  • Integrate the requirements of other departments, outside agencies, governments and the public into reports and conditions of approval.
  • Provide technical information regarding legislative requirements, advice and professional planning opinion and recommendations to Council and Committees, members of the public and staff.
  • Attend site visits, public meetings, open houses, Council and Committee meetings.
  • Respond to general inquiries relating to planning matters.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Planning
 
Qualifications:
  • University Degree from a recognized planning program or related discipline.
  • Minimum 2-3 years’ experience in the field of municipal planning.
  • Candidate (Provisional) Member or eligibility for membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners and Ontario Professional Planners Institute an asset.
  • Thorough knowledge of legislation and provincial policies relative to the municipal process.
  • Knowledge of the Planning Act, regulations and procedures and familiarity with the Development Permit System.
  • Proven analytical and organization abilities, leadership and motivation.
  • Ability to set priorities, solve problems and meet deadlines under tight and competing priorities.
  • Proven strong report writing and presentation skills.
  • Must possess good interpersonal skills to respond quickly and fairly to the needs of the public.
  • Valid Class “G” Ontario driver’s licence.
 
This position has a salary range of $76,118 to $89,047 plus a comprehensive benefit package.
