The Town of Newmarket, Financial Services Department
requires a Tax Clerk - Financial Relief Program
Contract to December 31, 2021 (21-35 hours/week)
 
 
Under the direction of the Supervisor, Property Taxes & Assessment, the Tax Clerk – Financial Relief Program will assist the Property Tax & Assessment area in the administration of the Town of Newmarket’s 2021 Financial Relief Program including responding to Tax Relief enquiries from taxpayers, data entry, processing monthly adjustments of penalty and interest, preparing Tax Relief reports and filing.
 
How do I qualify?
 
  • Completion of, or enrolled in, post-secondary education in a related field (Business, Accounting, or Property Assessment program) with the required knowledge of basic accounting and mathematical operation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of office/administrative procedures, with strong knowledge of effective customer service techniques and time management skills.
  • Experience in a municipal environment an asset.
  • Ability to deal courteously, effectively, and tactfully with both internal and external stakeholders, including taxpayers, lawyers, financial institutions, MPAC, staff and other agencies.
  • Proficiency with using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) with demonstrated experience in a computerized environment.
  • Working knowledge of Municipal Connect and TXM software an asset.
  • Excellent organizational, adaptability, communication, interpersonal, detail oriented and analytical skills. Ability to coordinate and prioritize work. Previous experience requiring ability to multi-tasking in a fast paced changing environment.
  • Strong problem/complaint resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team member and independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Working knowledge of the Assessment Act, the Municipal Tax Act, and other Provincial Legislation affecting assessment and tax billing.
  • Due to the responsibilities of this position, a police information check satisfactory to the Town of Newmarket is required.
 
 
Salary: $18.39 - $19.51/hour
