North Bay is a vibrant city, servicing a regional catchment area of 112,000 people, nestled between Lake Nipissing and Trout Lake. This progressive city of 52,000 residents is conveniently located just three and a half hours from major Ontario centers such as Toronto and Ottawa.
The Corporation of the City of North Bay is accepting applications for the position of Supervisor, Linear Operations.  Reporting to the Operations Manager, this position is responsible for supervision and overseeing the reliability and regulatory compliance of water and sanitary linear operations.  Complete construction projects by planning, organizing and controlling projects.  Complete quality inspections and supervise sub-contractors and in-house unionised staff.  Oversees work on water and wastewater facilities in conjunction with other management as required.  Ensures all the support, resources and training are completed and coordinates planning, scheduling, inventory, etc., to effectively support operational needs. 
The successful candidate will possess the following key qualifications:
  • Community College Diploma in Environmental or Civil Engineering or related field or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience in water and wastewater linear construction and maintenance,  or related experience and demonstrated minimum of one (1) year of direct or leadership supervisory experience.
  • OIT Certificates for Water Treatment, Water Distribution, Wastewater Treatment, and Wastewater Collection.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excavation and Construction practices. 
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Excellent written, report writing and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with SCADA.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of relevant Standards, Acts and Regulations.
  • Relevant experience using computerized work management system.
  • Leadership competencies including operating strategically, leveraging diversity and differences, customer focused, ensuring accountability, managing complex problems, employing interactive and effective communication, fostering collaborative relationships, cultivating engagement to drive vision and purpose, managing and developing talent, establishing and maintaining trust, displaying self-awareness, and demonstrating resiliency.
  • Computer literacy utilizing MS Office.
  • Contemporary staff supervisory skills including knowledge of collective agreement administration and interpretation, labour relations principles and practices, and relevant employment legislation.
  • Valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s license
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions, work in confined spaces, maintenance holes, sewers, treatment tanks, wet-wells and near high voltage electrical equipment.
  • Ability to work outside regular business hours, as required.
