(Full-time position, 40 hours per week)
 
The Town of Orangeville has an opportunity available for the position of Supervisor, Wastewater. This position supervises the Town’s wastewater treatment staff, and oversees the day-to-day operations of the Water Pollution Control Plant (WPCP) and sewage pumping stations. Duties of the position include:
 
  • Assigning tasks, supervising or directing other Wastewater operators as required.
  • Collecting, or supervising collection of, wastewater and final effluent samples for testing and other samples or measurements ensuring compliance with the Environmental Compliance Approvals (ECA) or other applicable regulations.
  • Performing or supervising maintenance of equipment, structures and grounds, including but not limited to pumps, mixers, blowers, and other equipment.
  • Hiring, supervising or arranging supervision of contractors and ensuring their compliance with the Town’s Health and Safety Policy and Procedures.
  • Performing the duties of the Overall Responsible Operator (ORO) for treatment and collection systems as required under Ontario Regulation 129/04, as amended; ensuring compliance of the WPCP including monitoring the sewage treatment process, participating in Ministry inspections and overseeing the preparation and submission of the Annual Report, as required by the Environmental Compliance Approval (ECA).
  • Assisting senior staff with administrative matters, including but not limited to completing time sheets, approving payments to contractors and suppliers, developing the maintenance program for the WPCP and sewage pumping stations, providing input for the annual budget, and responding to public inquiries.
  • Completing training required by provincial regulations to maintain the wastewater treatment license that is a requirement of the position.
  • Other duties as assigned, including tasks involving manual labour.

 

Qualifications:

  • Secondary school Diploma.
  • Four years of additional education or training as relevant to the functions performed by operators, in accordance with O. Reg. 129/04 as amended.
  • Four years of experience operating a Class IV wastewater treatment facility.
  • Minimum of two years of experience as an Operator-In-Charge of a Class III or Class IV wastewater treatment facility.
  • Be licensed with, or be eligible and obtain within 150 days, a Class IV Operators License for Wastewater Treatment facilities.
  • Be licensed with, or be eligible and obtain within 150 days, a Class II Operators License for Wastewater Collection facilities.
  • Current and valid Level G driver’s license.
  • Thorough understanding of the requirements of applicable regulations, including but not limited to the Environmental Compliance Approvals (ECA), Ontario Water Resources Act and the applicable regulations made under that Act.
  • Knowledge of the various fields related to wastewater treatment including mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, PLCs, SCADA systems, computers, etc.
  • Superior communication skills, verbal and written; experience with Outlook, Word and Excel; experience using SCADA control systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Ability to motivate and direct staff.

 

Hourly Range: $39.93 – $46.72 per hour, Band 10 on the Town’s 2019 Hourly Pay Grid, plus a comprehensive benefits package
