ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OFFICER – CREATIVE ECONOMY
(FILE 13-1608-MBX)

Responsible for: Liaising between the City and Regional governments and the creative and cultural industry sector (including the tourism industry), and ensuring that the City’s new approach to economic development is consistent with the development of the creative economy. Duties will include supporting Recreation and Culture department activities, providing input on the alignment of incubation and business support services to meet the needs of creative industries and creative people. Supporting festival and event development, and managing the ongoing development and positioning of neighbourhoods and the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre, according to the economic and cultural vision for the City. This role is also responsible for managing all of the Italy business development activities within the International Business Development Program, which involves both inbound and outbound missions.
 
Qualifications and experience:
  • University Degree in a discipline related to the job functions or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Possesses a minimum of 5 years proven, progressive and more responsible related work experience preferably in Economic Development and/or Urban Planning
  • Experience benchmarking and analyzing economic performance of geographic regions
  • Experience preparing reports, presentations and speaking notes for self and others
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and foster internal and external relationships and work in partnership with City, business, labour, academic institutions, community agencies, and government
  • Knowledge of provincial and federal legislation, policies, programs, and incentives related to municipal economic development and labour force development
  • Demonstrated ability in handling matters of a confidential and/or sensitive nature
  • Flexible and available to work irregular hours including weekends as required
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid, unrestricted Ontario Driver’s License, Class “G”
