Transportation Demand Management (TDM) Coordinator

Reporting to the Manager of Development Transportation Engineering, the Transportation Demand Management (TDM) Coordinator focuses on the implementation of TDM plans and Active Transportation (AT) as part of the development application review process in support of City’s modal share targets. As a member of the Development Transportation Engineering team this position is responsible for liaising with other City departments, York Region, developers, stakeholders and other agencies to integrate TDM measures, principles and programs into new developments and future transportation facilities.
 
Qualifications and experience:
  • Successful completion of a university degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering or Planning, Environmental Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in Transportation Engineering or Planning, including a minimum of three (3) years in Transportation Demand Management (TDM) hard and soft measures, and Active Transportation (AT).
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of the theories, concepts, principles, best practices, and techniques in the field of Transportation Demand Management, including parking management programs and the use of TDM initiatives and parking management to influence transportation mode choice.
  • Well-versed in AT Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) design, accessibility, site circulation, etc.
  • Knowledge of safety legislations and guidelines such as Ontario Traffic Manual (OTM), TAC, and Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) guidelines for pedestrian and bikeways.
  • Strong hands-on experience with principles of TDM in development application review process, civil engineering or urban planning, technical analyses and data collection.
  • Ability to research, interpret and analyze data and to provide recommendations on the basis of findings.
  • Demonstrated ability to answer enquiries and liaise with elected officials, the public, various City departments, and outside agencies.
  • Effective communication, research and influence skills to promote TDM and convincingly present and convey issues, ideas and concepts to a variety of contacts including the general public.
  • Ability to see longer-term implications and effects of recommendations, options and approaches.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office, as well as proficiency with the application of specialized software relevant to the technical specialty; knowledge of GIS software is an asset.
  • Ability to work both independently and as member of a team, with the flexibility to adapt to the team’s priorities.
  • Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License and have access to a reliable vehicle to utilize on City business when required and owns or has access to a bicycle.
  • Ability to work outside of normal business hours, as required.
